The attorney general's push to block governor andy beshear's covid-19 executive orders hit a major roadblock today.

Abc 36's monica harkins joins us live in the studio with more on a ruling that came down just a few hours ago.

L3 monica: white that decision came today from the kentucky supreme court.... and essentially put a hold on any rulings by lower courts that would restrict governor beshear's emergency orders when it comes to stopping the spread of the coronavirus.

L3: coronavirus outbreak white ky supreme court upholds governor's covid-19 orders puts hold on any low ... the decision by the supreme court was unanimous.... and comes after state attorney general daniel cameron filed a motion in boone county wednesday... asking a judge to not only block all of the governor's order... but to also prohibit the him from issuing or enforcing new orders.

Cameron said the motion wasn't about the governor's policies but about making sure the governor follows the law when issuing the orders.

Governor beshear said earlier today the boone county judge was indicating he would side with cameron.

Cameron also joined a lawsuit brought last month by agriculture commissioner ryan quarles and two scott county businesses to lift the governor's restrictions on businesses.

A scott county judge sided with them.

Today... in the three-page order by the state's high court ... chief justice john minton wrote that clear and consistent health policy is needed when dealing with a pandemic and that the kentucky legislature has expressly given the governor broad executive powers in a public health emergency.

Andy beshear (d) kentucky "gov.

Beshear: so i stayed up the last two nights worried that we had a battle of life and death and if we lost it wouldn't be me who paid for it but it would be so many other kentuckians.

And so what the supreme court has done has ensured the safety and lives of kentuckians and while at the same time saying they'll hear all the substantive arguments later.

And i'm happy to do that folks."

The supreme court will still hear both sides on the case... l3 monica: white the court also directed any lower court order involving the governor's orders be immediately sent to the supreme court for consideration.
