Despite the surge, Governor Ron DeSantis has held off on issuing a mandatory statewide order for masks.

Thanks to face-covering rules, New York is keeping the virus under control, adding an average of 700 cases a day in July.

Reuters adds there are almost 4.2 million COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and over 146,000 recorded deaths.

America accounts for nearly 25 percent of confirmed fatalities from coronavirus worldwide.
