Ram Temple | 'PM Modi shouldn't attend bhoomi pujan as Prime Minister': Asaduddin Owaisi

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not attend the 'Bhoomi pujan' ceremony of the Ram temple at Ayodhya on August 5 in his official capacity, but can do so as an individual.

"PM Modi should not attend that event.

Because if he attends that function as the PM then a message will go in the country that the PM is supporting people of one faith only," Owaisi said.

"If he says he is going to attend the event in his individual capacity, then nobody will question it.

Every PM, if he follows a religion, he has the right to follow it.

But PM is also constitutional head and the Constitution is related to the basic structure of secularism," Owaisi added.

PM Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on August 5.

Elaborate preparations are being planned for three-day Vedic rituals.

Rituals will begin on August 3 and end with a 'bhumi pujan' on August 5.

Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust is overseeing temple construction.

Temple Trust has said there won't be over 200 people at the ceremony.

Following 'bhumi pujan', the construction of the temple will begin.

The construction is set to begin nine months after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Mandir side in dispute.
