A group of supporters will rally on the courthouse lawn at 10 a.m.

Saturday morning to host an informational session to discuss the history of the statue which was placed on the lawn in 1900.

Daviess county--- the community is divided - over the confederate statue - that stands in front of the court house.

A number of people will gather tomorrow in hopes of saving it.

44news reporter tyler druin is in owensboro with the story.

It has been a passionate topic for the past several years regarding this confederate statue on the courthouse lawn in downtown owensboro- "we have over 1,600 signatures endorsing the statue be removed" the owensboro division of the naacp is pushing for the removal of this confederate statue- the naacp and the owensboro history and science museum came to an agreement that the statue could be placed inside the museum for educational purposes.

"the negotiations are ongoing, there have been different talks of different places of where it could and should go" thursday night the owensboro city council voted against placing the statue inside of the museum.

Its been a back and fourth few months surrounding this confederate monument - its been on the daviess county courthouse lawn for over 120 years - "i really wish they would keep this monument, it really means a lot to a lot of people" saturday morning at 10, a group of people in support of keeping the statue on the courthouse lawn will meet for an information session surrounding the history of the statue - placed on the lawn in the year 1900.

County leaders tell 44news commissioners will revisit this topic at the county commission meeting.
