Public can view submissions for new Mississippi state flag

Mississippi has received more than 2,000 submissions of flag designs as the state works to adopt a new state flag.

Mississippi department of archives and history is giving us a look at the designs submitted for a new state flag.

The agency put the designs on its website.

Saturday was the deadline for those flag designs to be submitted.

More than 18 hundred of them are now in the hands of the state flag commission.

That group must narrow that down and eventually come up with one design to be approved by the voters in the november general election.

Mississippi started the search for a new flag when the legislature and governor got rid of the old flag because of its confederate battle emblem.
