A wild elephant and a calf fell into an agricultural well in the Wadamune Wewa area in Welikanda, Sri Lanka, on August 3.

Villagers alerted the Forest Department that they found the elephant stuck inside the well.

Upon receiving the information, Wildlife officials from Mahaweli arrived at the scene and rescued the elephant and calf.

With the help of an excavator, they were able to rescue the trapped elephants after a struggle of nearly three hours.

The rescued elephant and calf moved into the forest to join the herd of elephants from where it got separated.
