Eh 44news new tonight from evansville ---- police are investigating a patriotic crime.

They are looking for the person responsible for burning an american flag.

Investigators are now turning to you -- for help tracking the person down.

44news reporter tyler druin is digging deeper tonight.

He spoke with victim --- who woke to find their flag -- now a pile of ashes.

"we have three different cases, of desecration of a unitd states flag - three different locations on the southeast side of town" police say all of the homeowners - live within one mile of each other - tuesday night - detectives say surveillance video in the 2200 block of hawthrone ave - captured a man between the ages of 22 and 30 - setting an american flag on fire this is what is left - "two of these cases the flag was attached to the house, so the house could have burned as well, and there were families inside" "this evansville home has cameras, police say that suspect came right through the front yard of this evansville home - came to this flag pole, catching it on fire, the homeowners were home, that suspect is still on the loose" "its just wrong, people should be able to hang the american flag up outside of their home, this is just wrong it is going on" sherry purritt - says she loves this country - the grandmother is a die hard republican - purritt lives in the 2000 block of south boeke - she says her home was targeted -- "they need to be prosecuted, i am an american, i should be able to hang a flag outside of my home, someone could burn up in their home, its that bad" wednesday night - a suspect entered the backyard of this home - passing the flag attached to the house - and torching the american flag on this kathleen ave.

Garage - right now police do not have any suspects - anyone with information is asked to contact the anyone crime tip hotline - " its a class misdemeanor, even though in my opinion we take that personally, the other officers take it personal as well it is the american flag" in evansville tyler druin 44news
