The monument's final place will be set by a committee.

Covid-19.

But first -- developing tonight --- another confederate statue -- voted out.

This one -- more than a hundred years old -- and standing tall -- for the time being -- at the center of daviess county.

The fiscal court -- ending a months -long debate -- just hours ago.

County leaders --- voting tonight -- to remove the confederate soldier from the court house lawn.

Our chief western kentucky bureau reporter -- erran huber -- was among the divided crowd -- waiting to hear the results ---- tonight -- he has reaction -- from both sides.

Confrontation.

Conversation.

Even some lighter moments.

But at the end, still unhealed divisions.

Community wounds torn open over this confederate statue on the daviess county courthouse lawn.

Some in favor of the removal what they saw as best for both sides.

"from the approach that we're not trying to erase history.

And a lot of the participants that were at past saturday s rally were people from out of town.

For the majority of owensboro, they want to see the statue removed.

They want to make sure the best for both sides is taking place.

That being that education is key and history is not going to be removed.

Those opposed they were worried about the direction of the country, seeing the statue a more than just a monument to confederate dead.

"i see america falling, even just here in my own city.

You see it in the city, you see it in the state.

You see it at the white house, you see it everywhere.

You see it in the media.

Our country's falling.

People are not being the americans that they were born to be.

Where you at, america?

Wake up."

Many out here, exercising their first amendment rights.

Others, chose to also exercise their second.

Like this retired air force combat veteran.

He didn't want to give his name but he did share what brought him out.

"i think it's something that has been lost on this country.

The confederates were literal traitors.

They literally tried to destroy this country.

They literally killed and went to war against the united states of america.

They're traitors.

So it's amazing to me that people will drape themselves in the american flag, and then wave the confederate flag.

This is their participation trophy right there."

Members of the daviess county fiscal court shared during their meeting that they knew no decision would please everyone.

Those opposed to the statues removal, say that they will remember the decision at the ballot box "it was just a decided thing.

And that's not what america's about.

That's why we elected, and that's why we can not vote for those people."

But questions linger tonight over where the statue could end up.

Whether that's on public land, private land, or eventually in a museum.

A commission will be appointed to decide.

In owensboro.
