Students at Houston were split into two groups.

Group A went back to in class learning Monday; group B will go back on Tuesday

Doors to students today in chickasaw county, but not in a traditional sense.

Administrators say only half of the student returned today under a new hybrid schedule.

Wtva chelsea brown spoke with the superintendent about how students felt to be back on campus.

Here in houston the first day of class has been smooth for the hilltoppers.

I spoke with superintendent tony cook, he says the district only ran into one small problem so far..

"the biggest issue we have had so far, some parents, their passwords didn't work for the virtual option."

Superintendent tony cook, says overall the first day went well.

"it's been great so far."

Nat sound school bellhouston school district administrators made some changes to what students saw last year.

"masks of course, social distancing, a lot less students in the classroom."

Some students and parents are nervous but they are also ready to get back to the classroom "sure there is a little bit of an anxiety issue."

Cook says he saw many students over the summer eager to return to school.

"kids want to be here, i have been to walmart all summer and the grocery store, ride down the road and kids stop me and say please can we go back to school."

Staff is taking students' temperatures when they come in the building.

This does cause a little extra work for employees but they are helping however they can.

"and they are always willing to jump in and so whatever."

Group b starts their school year tomorrow.
