A 24-year-old man is accused of trying to extort money from his parents in Virginia.

Ultimately landed two men in lee county jail on extortion charges.

A drug debt and this is where it evolved into to show you the seriousness of what people will do" a virginia couple reportedly received a video call showing their son, hawks, tied up against a tree with a gun pointed at his head.

The "kidnappers" wanted money i exchange.

"an individual that was caught up in the crime of drugs was lead to a point that he was willing to go this far and extort money from his parents."

While on a call with the "kidnappers" the virginia coupl heard a gunshot which made them think someone had shot and killed their son.

The "kidnappers" again contacte the parents threatening to cut their son's fingers off one at a time until the couple met their demands.

The "kidnappers" later send a picture of a hand with a nail through it claiming it was hawks' hand.

"the parents became suspicious when they looked at the hand in the photograph and was able to determine that was not their son."

During the investigation, investigators grew suspicious the incident might not be an actual kidnapping.

The parents told their son they sent the money through western union, but they really did not sent anything.

"the person that was trying to receive the western union was also the son that was supposedly kidnapped."

Investigators arrived at the western union location and found hawks at the counter trying to pick up the money.

Officers arrested him and fisher, who was also at there shopping.

"these people went through about 48 hours of excruciating fear of their son was in serious danger."
