Beautiful sunset forms over Taal Volcano in the Philippines

A beautiful orange-purple sunset formed over the Taal Volcano in the Philippines, which recently erupted and displaced thousands of residents.

Onlooker Paleny Mercado said she had forgotten how beautiful the volcano was when she watched the magnificent colours on August 26.

She said: “I feel relaxed and refreshed every time I look at the volcano, but at the same time I can't help worry since it's showing signs of activity again." The worried local said the beautiful volcano, which has attracted tourism-based businesses to establish themselves nearby, sparked fears of another eruption when it showed white steam and fumes this month.

Geologists reported that white steam spewed from the Taal volcano on August 18.

They recorded five volcanic earthquakes and weak steaming or fumarolic activity at the volcano.

The Taal volcano, which sits next to a lake on an island in Batangas province, erupted in January this year damaging houses, businesses, and destroyed agricultural land, harvests and killing hundreds of animals.

There are 24 active volcanoes in the Philippines located from the province of Batanes to Jolo, Sulu.

Out of these 24, 13 are located in Luzon, three in Visayas, and eight in Mindanao islands.
