Local Church Assisting With Storm Relief

A Huntsville volunteer group is gathering equipment for a journey to the Alabama coast, ready to spend a week helping people impacted by Hurricane Sally.

A huntsville volunteer group called prepare and respond is getting ready to help people impacted by hurricane sally... volunteers say they will spend the rest of the week gathering equipment for the journey to the alabama coast.

Casey - tell us how the group plans to help?

Over the next few days, the main task is checking to make sure all equipment, like this skid steer and chain saws, is working...then, the focus is helping people whose houses have flooded.

These volunteers also responded to hurricane laura less than a month ago--but they say this trip will be very different.

The trip to louisiana was focused on tree removal and debris from wind damage... but the group expects there to be more flooding damage this time.

Prepare and respond volunteers say a lot of the work will be ripping out interiors of homes, and removing dry wall and flooring so houses can be rebuilt.

Organizers say are bringing fewer volunteers because of the pandemic-- so the trip may be longer than usual.

"to bring hope to these people.

It's different this year, it's harder, but that doesn't change what we are called to do."

The group is waiting to find out where the most damage is, and where they are needed the most.
