Villagers used a make-shift pulley to cross a bridge which collapsed during a storm.

This is the terrifying moment a bridge collapsed after strong winds and heavy rains brought by tropical storm Leon battered southern Philippines last week.

Footage shows stranded residents crowding around the fallen bridge in Sulatan Kudarat province on September 16.

Myra May Ali, who lives in the village, said some of her neighbours lost their homes from the flash flood a few days before.

She said: "I can't believe this has happened to us during this time.

I hope we can get through this hard time." Desperate locals looked for an alternative route to cross because they need to go to work that day.

However, local officials have warned them not to use these routes and wait for the repair team to arrive because the rough roads are muddy and the ground is soft from the flood.

The affected families who lost their homes received help from the local government and are currently staying in temporary shelters outside the town.
