The kentucky labor cabinet says that... as of thanksgiving weekend... those benefits will end.... already adding to the pain many unemployed kentuckians are already feeling.

Reporter john charlton with whas in louisville has details in tonight's top story at five.

L3: top story white extended unemployment to end this weekend l3: top story white kimberly turner july unemployment filer l3: top story white extended unemployment to end this weekend posted on the whas11 news facebook page, an article about extended unemployment benefits ending for thousands...and that post was trending.

A lot of finger pointing at our elected leaders and misinformation.

Also questions from those who've been waiting for months for their money.

So focus reached out via tuesday evening emails labeled important, and with several phone calls... ...wednesday morning to the governor's office, as well as to the kentucky labor cabinet... all we had to go on was a press release.

It stated that kentucky's extended benefits ended because the number of people collecting unemployment for the week ending november 7th fell below the threshold of 5% of the labor force, so the u.s. department of labor is stopping extended benefits for at least 13 weeks.

We wanted more clarification, and we finally got it in an email just before close of business.

Unemployment benefits usually last 26 weeks, but due to the pandemic, benefits were extended 13 weeks, and then another 13 weeks after that.

However, the labor department's move means those who have received at least 39- weeks of benefits, which is 47-hundred-and-23 claimants, will not have their benefits extended anymore starting saturday.

1'36 i've not seen a single dollar.

1'39 kimberly turner is a july filer, so what does it all mean for her?

21'51 hello, sinking ship over here.

21'54 the labor cabinet says she and others who have not collected at all should still get what they're owed.

Turners says she's "owed" an explanation.

24'24 the frustration feeling is that i don't know why.

24'28 again... that was john charlton reporting.
