Phunware launches Smart City Pandemic Response Solution for municipal governments

Phunware Inc (NASDAQ:PHUN) announced Thursday it has added a multinational customer for its Multiscreen-as-a-Service platform. The Austin, Texas-based company also said it was launching its Smart City Pandemic Response Solution on mobile platforms for municipal governments to utilize during the coronavirus pandemic. The Multiscreen-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform, a mobile corporate campus solution, helps businesses manage campus services with an easy-to-navigate application for Apple iOS and Android systems. READ: Phunware launches mobile Pandemic Response Solution to help healthcare industry address coronavirus challenges Phunware said its new customer plans to leverage MaaS to manage room bookings, enable positioning and navigation throughout the campus and provide location sharing capabilities amongst employees and visitors. The platform will also integrate with existing third-party applications to support extra services like parking, food ordering and security. “We are very excited to continue winning new business with large multinational companies even while business, markets and life remain materially disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Alan Knitowski, Phunware’s CEO. “These endorsements of MaaS in such complex, multinational corporate campus environments define the core value in scale and reach that our software and infrastructure provides on mobile for mission critical digital transformation initiatives. Importantly, they also establish a strong foundation for future customer wins as traditional demand begins normalizing again over time and business gets back to work.” Pandemic response solution The company also launched its Smart City Pandemic Response Solution on Thursday. Phunware’s platform leverages the firm’s location-based services software to help governments to identify, locate and engage employees and citizens in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus. The solution can tag locations of businesses, provide more information on operating hours, track and prevent harmful exposure and coordinate information sharing and messaging. “We think it is extremely important for our country’s mayors and city officials to think globally, but act locally during the current COVID-19 pandemic,” Knitowski said. “During such trying times, we believe it is critical for local communities to take swift and decisive action from the bottom up to supplement government efforts being led from the top down at both the federal and state level, including a cogent go-forward plan for addressing the needs of citizens and visitors to each city nationwide in safely getting back to a more normal cadence for their personal and professional lives.” CARE Act submission The firm also said it has applied for a $2.85 million loan under the United States Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program, part of the recently adopted Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.
