The University of California Board of Regents on Tuesday chose Dr. Michael V. Drake as its 21st president to succeed outgoing President Janet Napolitano. The move is historic in that Drake will be the first Black executive — and first person of color — to lead to the system of 10 campuses, five medical centers, three nationally affiliated labs and more than 280,000 students and 230,000 faculty and staff.
