MGM Wireless Ltd (ASX:MWR) has launched SPACETALK Life – a breakthrough, all-in-one wearable 4G smartphone, watch and GPS device targeted at older people to keep them safe and connected. The technology company is offering the world’s first smartphone-watch device that incorporates two innovations – to keep seniors safe and give them the ability to communicate. The device offers more innovative features compared to a security device and on top, has a wide range of practical communication abilities to help overcome loneliness and isolation on the back of the COVID-19 pandemic. More fashionable solution MGM Wireless founder and chief executive Mark Fortunatow said: “Our objective was to create a practical, useful, reliable and secure smartphonewatch for our senior citizens. “But we were also committed to building a beautiful looking timepiece that seniors would be proud to wear. “SPACETALK Life is also a security device and a more fashionable solution to an SOS neck pendant that seniors find embarrassing to wear. “We believed wearing a smartphone-watch was far more convenient and prevented the frustration most of us experience in trying to find our mobile phones. “We also wanted our device to address the needs of a broad audience given the health and lifestyles of senior Australians varied greatly. “Our device caters for those with significant health issues to others playing golf in their 60s and beyond. New features The first feature is the ‘safety call back’, which initiates a return call when the user is unable to answer due to a fall, or other mishaps. Safety call back enables an approved contact to use an app to initiate a voice call from the device to check on the user’s well-being. The device alerts the wearer that a call is about to be made with the option to cancel the call. A second innovation is ‘location by request’ to deal with emergencies which enable approved contacts to instantly track and pinpoint the location of the user. If the wearer wishes to retain privacy, a request can be rejected from the device. Wearers have ultimate control over who can see their location. Additional features include an SOS button, medication reminders and bluetooth pairing to hearing assistive devices and car audio. The smartphone-watch incorporates other useful features, such as SMS, step counter, weather reports and advanced battery performance. The device is also easier to use than a traditional mobile smartphone. It also provides a person with a disability - whether living at home or in an aged care residential facility - an easy way to stay in touch with family and friends. SPACETALK Life is controlled by an enhanced version of the company’s AllMyTribe App ecosystem, which is operated by the wearer, family member or carer. Sense of safety and independence The device reduces pressure on aged care services, while still providing seniors with a sense of safety and independence. SPACETALK Life is particularly useful for families looking to care for their ageing parents, enabling several family members to share the caring responsibility through the AllMyTribe App. Moving ahead from children’s SPACETALK SPACETALK Life builds on the success of the SPACETALK smartphone, watch and GPS device for children aged between five and 12, which was launched in October 2017. Fortunatow added: “SPACETALK Life provides access to a large, new and rapidly growing market, which is also complementary to our hugely successful SPACETALK children’s smartphone-watch business.” SPACETALK launches on Amazon UK Last month, the company launched the sale of SPACETALK on Amazon UK, making it the first phase of a broader rollout through online channels globally. Its SPACETALK devices now sell in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. It is already selling through Australia’s largest consumer electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi and New Zealand’s largest telecommunications provider SPARK. It has sales and distribution agreements with Sky in the UK and Vodaphone, Harvey Norman, Officeworks, Kogan and Dick Smith across Australia and New Zealand. The company is confident it will become the leading brand in this category in the UK, as it is in Australia. Annual revenue up In the financial year to June 2020, MGM Wireless saw revenue surge by 47% to $10.5 million, boosted by a 53% growth in revenue from SPACETALK devices and a 180% spike in AllMyTribe App revenue. Its MGM School Communication grew by 25% to $2.75 million.
