Kerala govt withdraws controversial Kerala Police Act amendment

The Kerala state government has decided not to implement the amendment to the Kerala Police Act following opposition from various groups on the ground that it would curtail freedom of expression. The state cabinet, last month, had decided to give more teeth to the Police Act by recommending the addition of Section 118-A. On Saturday, Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan signed the Kerala Police Act Amendment ordinance.
