Swarms of tech workers won't be returning to South Lake Union until the summer of next year at the earliest. Amazon announced Wednesday that it has extended its work-from-home policy for corporate employees to June 30, 2021 as cases of the virus surge across the U.S. and Washington at what health experts say is an "alarming" rate. The previous policy was set to expire on Jan. 8, 2021. "We continue to prioritize the health of our employees and follow local government guidance," an Amazon spokeswoman said in an email. "We have invested significant funds and resources to keep those who choose to come to the office safe through physical distancing, deep cleaning, temperature checks, and by providing face coverings and hand sanitizer."
