Firefighters in the United States are suing manufacturers and companies that make firefighting gear and foam, claiming that the gear contains toxic industrial compound PFAS, which is associated with health problems including cancer. Cancer has become the leading cause of death among firefighters, with the International Association of Fire Fighters attributing 66% of firefighter deaths between 2002 and 2019 to cancer.
