Campaigning gets underway in Indonesia for February presidential election

Presidential election campaigning officially begins in Indonesia with three candidates vying to lead the country. Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto, former Central Java governor Ganjar Pranowo, and former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan are competing to replace outgoing leader Joko Widodo. Recent surveys show Prabowo leading, Ganjar in second, and Anies in third. The candidates will embark on two months of campaigning, with debates organized by the election commission scheduled for the upcoming weeks. Over 205 million Indonesians are eligible to vote in the election.
