Trial Date Set for NYC Subway Bomber
On Tuesday, a US federal judge set a trial date of October 29 for Akayed Ullah, the Bangladeshi man accused of attempting a suicide bomb attack in a New York City subway hub in December.
The 28-year-old was arrested on December 11 after trying to detonate a pipe bomb secured to his body in a pedestrian tunnel connected to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan’s Times Square.
Ullah was hospitalized for injuries suffered after the bomb ignited but failed to detonate, while three other people suffered minor injuries.
He currently faces life in prison if convicted of charges that include using a weapon of mass destruction and carrying out a terrorist attack against a mass transit system.
