(ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION) Homes in rural Peru were washed away on Friday (March 29) after the Perene River burst its banks, affecting thousands of families in Chanchamayo province.

The area of Junin was amongst the most affected, with residents cut off by rising floodwaters and authorities mobilising to evacuate residents and rescue animals.

Lima has declared a state of emergency in Chanchamayo and surrounding areas.

According to reports, more than 13,000 people have been affected by floods, at least 51 have died this wet season
