Oklona High School placed on lock down after parents fight with a knife

Parents at okolona high school, resulted in a brief lock down ... we want to warn you some of the photos you are about to see may be graphic, wtva xavier harris is at the school he joins us live with what investigators are saying.

According to robert stokes an investigator with the opd, the department are still interviewing witnesses to piece together exactly what happened this morning here at okolona high school.

He tells me they believe it started with one student bullying another which led to the two parents getting involved.

I spoke with one parent who saw what happened, who did not want to go on camera but tells me incidents like this is what puts a bad look on not only the school of okolona but the community as a whole... pkg "it's sad for parents to go to the school and get out there and want to fight, what they need to do is set an example for the children."

According to investigator robert stokes two parents of students at okolona high schoolesperanza baker latoya johnson got into a fight at the school around 11 tuesday morning.

"ms. esperanza baker grabbed an ice pick out of her car they started fighting, the principle separated them, baker then grabbed a box blade out of her car."

According to investigator stokes, that's when the two parents began fighting once again outside of the school.

I reached out to the schools superintendent dexter green for a comment and he said in quote.

"okolona high school was temporarily on lock down to a situation that occurred outside the building but in close proximity to the school.

The police were called, and the situation was handled swiftly.

Students were in class during the incident's entirety.

All students are safe and regular operating procedures have resumed."

Parents i spoke with tell me the community needs change, and parents should want better for students because although no students were harmed... " it could have been a lot worse."

"it bothers me that parents bring knives to schools and kids are out there they could start fighting and hurt one of the kids."

Johnson was arrested and charged with simply assault and has since bonded out as for baker she was taken to nmmc to be treated for her wounds once she is discharged according to investigator stokes, she will be charged with aggravated assault.

Moments ago i spoke with the investigator stokes (he's calling back with an update on hospital victim) xavier harris wtva nine news.
