Why Caffeine is Good and Bad for Your Headache

Some people reach for the caffeine for a bit of a pick-me-up when they’ve got a pounding headache.????But does caffeine really help with that?????Yes and no.????The easiest way to explain it is that it’s possible for caffeine to both cure and cause a headache.????Take it from health experts the HuffPost, WebMD and The Cleveland Clinic spoke with.????Caffeine is good for headaches because it helps reduce inflammation and brings relief – or makes the pounding stop.????That’s why it’s an ingredient in a bunch of common pain relievers.????WebMD says it makes them 40% more effective!????Pain pills work faster and keep pain away for longer when combined with caffeine because caffeine helps the body absorb medications much faster.????If you get tension headaches, caffeine can help soften them by relaxing the muscles over the back of the head.????On the flip side, caffeine narrows the blood vessels around your brain, and WebMD says when you stop taking it, they expand again, which can be painful.????And too much caffeine can give you a rebound headache.????This happens when you take too many pain relievers all the time.????Once the meds wear off, the pain comes back with a vengeance.????Experts at The Cleveland Clinic say if this happens to you, cut back on pain pills and only have two cups of coffee a day.????That way, your head and your wallet won’t be in as much pain.
