Should Chicken Be Washed Before Being Cooked?

According to MNN.com, "In the celebrated PBS series, “The French Chef,” [chef Julia Child] advises home cooks to wash their chickens before cooking them." However, new research shows it's safer not to wash chicken.

Unfortunately, trying to wash off foodborne pathogens like salmonella and Campylobacter actually does very little to get rid of them.
