Giant great white sharks found near the Carolinas coast

NORTH CAROLINA / SOUTH CAROLINA β€” Three massive great white sharks have been pinged by ocean trackers near the Carolinas, Newsweek reports.

Researchers from OCEARCH, a non-profit group that tracks shark activity in the sea, shared their findings on a Facebook post.

The largest of the sharks, named Luna, is 15 feet long and weighs a total of 2,137 pounds.

The second shark, named Caroline, is 12 feet, 9 inches in length and was spotted close to Edisto Beach near South Carolina.

The third, called Katherine, was seen near the coast of Charleston, South Carolina.

The sharks were swimming across the Charleston Bump, which is around 80 to 100 miles from South Carolina, The Charlotte Observer reports.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, that area is a deep water bank in which many deep-sea sharks are traditionally found." Citing OCEARCH, the Charlotte Observer reports sharks are feeding on fish pulled north by the Gulf Stream into waters near the Carolinas.
