Madison city council discusses impact fees

Back to normal.

This morning we're hearing from people who live in madison about a fee that would make it more expensive to buy a new home.

The madison city council is considering a one-time impact fee that could add 11- thousand-dollars to the price tag of a newly built home or adding addition to a home.

Waay 31's rodneya ross is live at madison city hall where the city council met last night to get input from residents.

Rodneya what are people saying about this possible fee?

There are mixed reactions surrounding the impact fee.

Some say it's a good thing and could help as the city grows.

Others say it'll keep people from purchasing homes in the city.

City leaders say if the impact fee is passed it will bring in 55- million-dollars of revenue for madison.

That money will be used for parks, roads, and public safety.

Take a look at these numbers... under the current proposal, this is how that money would be spent....with the majority going to improving roads, and parks and recreation.

Millions are still also going to first responders, the library, and public works.

Here's what residents had to say barry oxley - lives in madison "what you're doing is, you're actually excluding that lower income person out of the market here".

Maryanna scott - lives in madison "i feel that, current residents are going to have to pay for this growth in the future" madison city council will vote on whether or not to impose the fee sometime next month.
