Fort Wayne brothers cut the ribbon for their new barber shop and plan to use earnings for the community.

A new barber shop is in town and these brothers are warming up their blades for business.

Fox 55's mallory beard met with the family for their grand opening on saint joe road and is going to give us a glimpse of the exciting day.

Tyrone mckinney is finally able to use his air blower on his first client.mckinney and his family opened up the 1947 barber gallery and lounge saturday morning.

The mckinney brothers couldn't wait to team up for business.

Terrance mckinney//owne r/tyrone's brother"we talked about owning a barbershop since we were kids."but more importantly, the barber shop honors a man very special to the mckinney brothers.terrance mckinney//owner/tyrone's brother"he was born in 1947.

He was an amazing guy."

Terrance is referring to his uncle--gaylord gaines.

Both an alumnus and thirty plus year employee at ivy tech who helped raise terrance and his three brothers.

Gaines passed away in december of 2018.

Terrance mckinney//owne r/tyrone's brother"he always had a smile on his face, so we're hoping through our barber shop, we can give our clientelle and everybody who works here a smile on their face as well."there's another man special to the mckinney brothers, too.terry mckinney//father"i'm very proud of my sons."the mckinneys are fort wayne natives.they plan to give back to the city as much as they can.

"we're also giving a scholarship--1,947 dollars every year towards the scholarship to help a student out."the mckinneys donated 1,947 dollars to the gaylord gaines memorial scholarship at ivy tech since their uncle passed.

They'll match that donation for chosen christian barber school, where tyrone received his license.terry mckinney//father "we're willng to do whatever we can to give back to our community."

The barbers will partner with the boys and girls clubs as well.

Mentoring them and giving a tip or two on cutting hair.

Especially for the women who want to get in the business like co-owner lydia carter.

From now through march twenty-first, kids from the boys and girls club will receive five dollars off their cuts.

In addition to this discount, 1947 barber gallery & lounge will offer discounts to public service men and women every monday.
