Woman dies at RiverBend Hospital, tests positive for coronavirus

The test was sent after her death.

We start tonight with some sad breking news.

Lane county public health and riverbend hospital confirmed tonight the first death possibly linked to the coronavirus here in our area.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is live outside the hospital with more information.

Chynna--less than 12 hours after lane county announced their first coronavirus case...they announced their first death.

However this is a seperate case from the one public health officials announced this afternoon.

Lane county public health and riverbend hospital says on march 14th a 60 year-old woman from the eugene springfield area came to the emergency room where she suffered a heart attack.

Medical staff suspected coronavirus so they conducted a test and the results came back positive this evening.

We can prevent more of these events occuring.

We know we wont be able to prevent more infections.

But we do believe if we work together, we'll be able to prevent more events like this, this evening.

Chynna-- riverbend says they are closely monitoring the health care providers who took care of this patient.

And to be clear...the medical examiner still has to determine the official cause of death but health officials say the positive covid-19 result is concerning.
