Southern Miss student-athlete talks about abrupt end to season

Aubrey Gillentines sophomore season at Southern Mississippi was cut short due to the corona virus.

Impact on sports due to the corona virus over the last few weeks.... it has cut seasons and careers short for many athletes... today, i spoke with a collegiate athlete who made it to the d-1 level and what that moment was like when he heard his season was done... into a better player."

As soon as you have that opportunity it gets taken away from you."

Aubrey gillentine is a former stud pitcher at amory high school who is now paving his career at southern miss... gillentine and his team were just a day away from kicking off conference play against florida international when the ncaa canceled all spring championships... "they scheduled another meeting for the next day and he told us that the rest of the season was going to be cancelled and that we wouldn't be playing anymore baseball this year.

How hard is that for you to hear?

It is so difficult you work all your life to play baseball like you love."

Especially here at his home field at amory high school and that how he feels for the seniors whose season may be cut short."

"it is tough a lot of them are not going to get the chance to play at the next level.

So this is what they live for and what they have been waiting for their whole life."

While gillentine still has several more years of eligibility... what is happening in the country is bigger then baseball... "it is hard for us as athletes, it is way bigger then that.
