Coronavirus causing changes

C1 3 wrenching choices during this pandemic.

That includes homeless shelters.

Abc 36's alexus larson shows you one example at the beacon of hope emergency shelter in winchester.

"the beacon of hope's director and founder michele bradford says the doors are closed.

Currently she has about 60 people living here and she says that's already overwhelming especially with the coronavirus spreading."

"it's so hard not to say yes come in, yes come in, but then you, we have to think about the greater good."

Bradford says on average..

She'll get at least one person coming through doors a day looking for a place to stay.

Now she's turning them away.but not without any help.

"we will offer them food.

We'll offer whatever help we can give them."

Bradford says there's about ten elderly living at the shelter.

And to protect them and everyone else.the facility is cleaned five times a day.

People only leave if they have work or doctors appointments.

And when they get back they have their temperature checked.

"we operate so much like a family everybody's on board with it because they don't want to make those people sick."

Bradford says so far, no one has been sick.but if someone does get ill..

She says the first step will be contacting their doctor.

If it's a severe case.

She says she'll rely on her connections to help her.

"i've got enough resources help in clark county that i can make a phone call and they would help me find a spot for them to go."

"bradford says they are in need of donations especially food right now.

If you would like to make a donation call them first so that when you get here they can come out to you and grab the supplies.

Reporting in winchester, alexus larson, abc 36 news."
