Going on a bear hunt!

We're tagging along for a fun event keeping communities connected during the COVID-19 panedmic

Are isolated to their homes á some are finding creative ways to occupy their time.

Kimt news 3's annalise johnson is showing us a familyáfriendly trend that's popping up in neighborhoods all over the country á including in rochester.

She joins us live to explain.

Annalise?

Live country club manor is one of many neighborhoods here in rochester and all over the country using stuffed bears to stay connected.

Now i don't have a bear á but i did borrow this stuffed monkey from kimt news 3's george mallet.

What does this have to do with staying connected?

Take a look.xxx stick a stuffed bear in your window á and watch the children walk by your home.

Inspired by a children's book á people are perching teddy bears to look out over the neighborhood.

"up up."

It's called going on a bear hunt.

"someone had the idea of doing a bear hunt.

Put teddy bears in the windows and kids could go for walks, find all the bears, something to do and something to get outside and something to get our minds off of what's going on."

I followed jana miller and her children as they went on a bear hunt this morning.

Natáfoot steps while out for walks á the neighborhood children look for the animals in windows to see how many they can count.

"when we go for walks we look for them.

We went on a big bear hunt on sunday.

Drove around in the manor.

Found about 70 bears."

The millers estimate there's about 100 bears in their neighborhood now.

The hunt is not only a way to keep kids distancing á but also keeps neighbors connected.

"it's been really good for the community too i think.

A lot of people maybe that don't have kids or are home by themselves or their spouse, it gives them a little bit of connection."

That's not the only activity planned for the neighborhood.

Beginning april first á country club manor residents plan to hide easter eggs in their yards for kids to go on walks and spot the eggs.
