Health care workers are facing the biggest challenge of their careers.

Ne's 1's cassie schirm spoke with nurses all across the state... who detail the struggles the're facing.... one new orleans nurse, tells news 15 even though the physical aspect is tough, the emotional aspect is tougher... 3 news 1's cassie schirm joins us live this afternoon.... after speaking with more nurses who detail working through this pandemic... cassie?

3 "i's rough being a stranger trying to comfort somebody when the're in a dark scary time."megan martin is a nurse in lafayette on the frontlines taking care of patients here in acadiana with covid 19"i's hard because when we have patients who wanna have their family there or have support we ca't allow ita lot of them just do't understand wha's going on."she says her and her team are doing everything they can with the limited supplies.

And only one n95 mask per nurse "i's hard i's tiring you come in you can barely breathe through those two masks we have a face shield we wipe them off with disinfectant wipes but they get streaks yo're trying to do these intricate things like start an iv or cutting pills in half and he ca't hardly see.

W're sweating because of what w're wearing i's a lot i's rough.

By the time yo're halfway through the shift yo're absolutely exhausted but you just keep pushing through'the're also doing more roles than usual"now i's happening is were trying to limit the amount of people that go into the rooms in the amount of times we get exposed so the nurses is having to play the role of multiple different people."a task that is taking a toll on these nurses the hardest martin says are the deaths."as doctors and nurses were use to people dying tha's part of it.

Having to tell someone over the phone and they can come and hug over the phone say goodbye one last time that part does't get any easier."for me i's been kind of emotionally exhausting and draining you knowmartin also has to worry about getting her mom who has cancer."i's been really awful and coming home one not being able to be anywhere near her into being terrified that 'm going to somehow bring something home to her and get her sick"now many people are calling health professionals superheroes."yo're brave ,yo're a hero ..i do't feel that way i just think 'm going to work to do my job and do my best but the positivity and the support that 've seen from people and other nurses is incredible" martin says the best thing you can do to help her do her job is stay home."if tha's all it takes to prevent somebod's death one person being in the hospital alone and afraid i's worth it" 3 3
