At this time of the covid-19 pandemic.

One local highschooler is making a differnce by hosting a blood- drive to help out her community.

Central high school senior ashleigh cochran scheduled a blood-drive back in january, for mid-april,not knowing the impact of blood donation today...ashleigh cochran "the amount of blood in the united states is growing to a dangersouly low level.

People are still needing blood.

There are still surgeries.

There are still cancer patients and trauma victims who whill need blood.

Blood doesn't just randomly come into appearance.

Someone has to donate it."so ashleigh decided to keep the blood-drive going in efforts to help the covid-19 pandemic angie simmons "the timing couldn't be better.

For a high schooler to stand up and decide to host a blood-drive and then for it to fall for such a time like this.

Such an important time of what an impact on her community she is going to have for a senior in high school.

It's amazing."to put it into perspective, nearly 700 blood-drives have been cancelled across the region, resulting in 21,000 fewer blood donations;each donation saving up to 3 lives.

Angie simmons "we need to make sure that our nation is strong right now.

And one of the ways to do that is to ensure that we have blood products on the shelves."

Blood-drives are an essential service.

People can leave their house to go and donate.

Ashleigh is using this as a way to see her friends, and give back to community, while of course social distancing.

Ashleigh cochran "so a lot of friends have told me that they're planning on coming just to get out of their house see some people in person for the first time in like three weeks and just to kind of take a break from the idea of the world is falling apart."

Danielle sachse, kq2 news the blood drive will be held next friday from 2-6 pm at the brookdale student ministries center.
