CCTV from Northumbria Police shows a robber pointing a blank-firing handgun at a shopkeeper in Washington, Northumbria.
The shopkeeper leans over the counter and tries to grab the gun before chasing the robber out of the store empty-handed.
He has been praised for his bravery by police, while his attacker has been jailed for two years and four months at Newcastle Crown Court.
