Pandemic Traveling

Dede Moll joins us to talk about what we should do about our previously scheduled travel plans.

But high temperatures in the 70s.

Looks pretty good.

Jodie.

>> >> the current pandemic caused by covid-19 will have lasting affects in the travel industry worldwide.

This month it's impacting vacations for families here at home.

Joining us tonight is dee dee mull of dee dee's travel in kansas city, missouri.

>> welcome.

The question is, what do we do now?

It's april, should we plan on june and july vacations canceled?

>> it's a little tricky.

July looks much better than june.

We're hoping things will open up then.

So i have not totally given up for summertime travels, but we right now need to be patient.

I would not cancel anything yet for july.

June is still iffy at this time.

>> okay.

I know you have been so busy, how are airlines and hoteling handling this?

>> that's been quite a challenge.

We have a lot of vendors working with clients hoping to re-schedule than cancel.

A lot are giving bonus dollar off for future travel.

A lot extending into next year and some into 2022.

>> that's good to know.

So if we do have airline tickets that we may not be able to use, is it true the airlines are saying we will give you a credit.

You can use this at a different time.

Is that how it's working?

>> a lot of them yes, we can get some cash refunds.

The airlines are during encouraging future credit instead.

Refunding are taking a long time.

It's best to use them for a future trip.

They have extended the dates and cancellation fees.

>> should we buy now?

Tickets are so inexpensive.

The later date travel.

>> it can be.

It's very important to consider travel insurance because a lot of vendors will offer a cancel free insurance or allow you to change if somebody happens, for instance if you choose an august september date, it has to be changed, that can be changed again if it needs to be.

But late summer, fall travel, definitely i think is a good time to purchase that now.

>> okay.

Dee dee, i hate to ask, how is your industry doing overall?

>> it's very challenging right now.

But fortunately clients have booked with a travel advisory, you have somebody in your corner that will go to bat for you with the vendors and suppliers to either change your trip for future travel or get a refund.
