Governor kate brown to reconsider opening salons... as many are facing grave financial hardships.

Kezi 9 news reporter jillian smukler spoke with beauty professionals to see if this petition is realistic.

Scott, "its a pretty stressful time basically i still havent seen any form of income or relief so its challenging" after many salons have been forced to shut their doors indefinately...many beauty professionals are struggling to get by.

Thats why a petition fighting for governor kate brown to reconsider these closures is gaining a ton of traction.

Bridge: within just two days...nearly 30,000 people signed this petition to governor kate brown stating that any licensed beauty professional should be able to do a service with one client in the salon per stylist at a time as long as they follow all the sanitation protocols.

But not every beauty professional thinks this is a good idea.

Scott, "we are a touch based service so theres just really no way to get around the close proximity that you are to your clients and we just feel its really premature" governor kate brown's office says they cannot reopen while oregon has social distancing measures in place due to the nature of the business.

But some argue...that their industry is essential.

Sautner, "our protocols are already so far above and beyond and i dont think people realize that we already wear masks we already wear gloves we already sanitize and sterilize in between clients and because we are up close and personal we are being attacked for that" nicole, "i think that what we do is an essential service for people and im surprised that grocery stores are allowed to be as full as they are...it just makes no sense that we are not able to do our job when we are some of the most sanitary people in places to be" scott says her concerns come from what clients are doing outside of the salon...and could possibly bring in.

Scott, "it is not essential to get your hair done its a luxury and if you want to help businesses like these types of services the best way is to comply so we can reopen as soon as possible" once the petition reaches their goal...it will be on it's way to the governor's office.

And she will have the final say.
