Mayors across Middle Georgia are reacting to Governor Kemp’s orders to start opening businesses up on Friday.

Our top story tonight at 6: mayors across middle georgia ... are reacting to governor brian kemp's orders to start opening businesses as early as friday.

41nbc's tanya modersitzki ... has more on why mayors... are encouraging you to stay home.

"just because they say you can open, doesn't mean you have to and just because you can go, doesn't mean you should."

Some mayors in middle georgia say governor kemp is putting people at risk by opening businesses up too soon.

"what does this mean to go back to business as normal when we're not ready."

"i think it is too soon but if people go out there and do it in a common sense responsible way it may prove to be ok .

Its concerning because this virus is real."

Macon-bibb mayor, robert reichert, says it's unclear if the county has hit its peak yet.

"some say we reached it, and some say we aren't there yet.

We'll have to see what these next few weeks bring."

Warner robins mayor randy toms, says while the state opens up, he's doing what he can to keep people safe which includes canceling the independence day celebrations.

"there's planning it takes months but i also think its way too early in the emotional state of humans to congregate in 10k plus i don't feel good about it and putting people in that kind of environment."

Milledgeville mayor, mary copelan, says baldwin county is a hot spot as numbers of confirmed cases rise.

She's hoping businesses and people take precaution.

"my heart is set on them doing the right thing and do it in phases and not open it completely.

Lets let 10 in and 10 out thats what im hoping we do here in milledgeville."

Atlanta mayor keisha lance bottoms displayed her concerns monday, on c-n-n.

And one of her concerns is macon.

"macon is a hot spot because they didn't close right away."

Mayor reichert responded to her comments saying he believes she misspoke.

"macon is not a hot spot, i don't know where she got that c1 3 b13 information from."
