Schoolboy, 15, killed after storm blows down house in Thailand

A teenager was killed and two others were injured after a house collapsed in a storm.

The 15-year-old boy was using time off from school during half-term to help with building work on the wooden structure in Nakhon Phanom, northeastern Thailand.

But a sudden storm hit the area on Tuesday (April 21) night caused the workers to run for cover and six of them sheltered in the house.

Five others managed to escape the shaking building but the boy, Mak Wattana, was left inside when the structure collapsed and fell on him.

The dead schoolboy's friend Peerapat Nakhowong, 15, whose left side of his body was injured said they jumped through the window when they realised that the house was collapsing.

He said: "We took the house as our shelter while the adult workers they stay outside.

When the was starting to collapse we jumped through the window and ran.

"Unfortunately, Mak could not make it in time as he was fallen on by the house." Police arrived at the scene to investigate.

The owner was later summoned to be questioned about the building work.

Police Major Apicha Wongwian said: "We are now investigating the cause of the collapse.

"The house might be have been brought down solely by the strong wind or its structure might have been sub-standard and if that is the case, we have to charge the owner."
