Aberdeen Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry needs volunteers

A local food pantry is working to feed families this weekend, but they need a few volunteers to help distribute food to families.

A local food pantry is having to change the way it operates because of concerns over the coronavirus... it's also caused people to stop volunteering --- w-t-v-a's kayla thompson is in aberdeen,,, and joins us live with what the loaves and fishes food pantry is doing to continue providing food to families safely --- and how you can help... aberdeen loaves and fishes food pantry is still working to feed families this weekend... but they need you... "nats of the moving carts" the aberdeen loaves and fishes food pantry is preparing to feed south monroe county families this weekend... but they are in need of volunteers... "the work program with the sheriff's department usually come down, but with this lock down they aren't able to come and help us, so we're dependent on the people of aberdeen to come up and help us.

We did this last month and i was very proud of aberdeen for the support they gave us."

And they need that kind of support tomorrow... when they feed area elderly "we'll get around 200 people tomorrow just senior citizens."

Before the coronavirus pandemic seniors would be able to sit in the lobby and go to the grocery store inside of the pantry...this time food will only be distributed in a drive thru style... "they'll line up and they'll come down the road and get a box placed in their car.

Only two people in a vehicle is all we're allowing."

And this drive thru method will continue on saturday... the pantry (also?) expects to feed about 400 to 450 families in aberdeen... and because food insecurity is such an issue...anyone in south monroe county can receive a box this weekend... "you need to have a mississippi current id but for now any new person we're talking your name and address and phone number.
