22-year-old Mirelle Murillo from Moreno Valley, California has gone viral on TikTok (@mirellesminis) after demonstrating how she crochets soft plastic mats for homeless people.

In footage from April 21, Mirelle talks her TikTok followers through the process and demonstrates her impressive crocheting skills.

Mirelle told Newsflare: "I initially saw an article last year that featured a group of older ladies who used plastic bags to crochet mats for the homeless and I was extremely inspired by them.

"However it wasn’t until this year that I started crocheting with plastic and I expanded into crocheting with soft plastics as well, since there’s so much soft plastic being thrown out.

"I've handed them out personally.

Doing this really makes me feel warm because I know I’m reducing plastic waste and making a difference in someone’s life." She continued: "My workplace goes through a lot of soft plastics that end up thrown in the dumpsters.

One day I just started taking home the plastics and cutting them into strips to crochet with." Plastics are commonly known as one of the most wasteful products polluting the Earth.
