The CDC and the Georgia Department of Public Health are encouraging people to wear personal protective equipment when they leave their homes, but many people misunderstand proper use of the protective gear.

People around middle georgia are choosing to wear personal protective equipment when they leave home.

But what you might not know, you could be putting others at risk.

The c-d-c and the department of health suggest you wear masks and gloves, but only for a one-time use and proper disposal.

They say cloth masks should be washed after each use.

Tamara allen, the director of infection prevention at fairview park hospital in dublin, says cross-contamination happens everyday.

"germs live everywhere on every surface on our hands, many places.

Cross-contamination can take place at any time.

We can actually cross-contaminate through our hands, through the environment, they're just everywhere.

That's why it's very important to make sure that our hands are clean at all times and that we're routinely cleaning our environment and surfaces that we touch to make sure our germs are not being spread from one place to another.

" nurse allen says once gloves are taken off you should throw them away, and wash your hands immediately.

Your goal when removing a pair of gloves should be to keep the germs from the outside of the gloves off of your skin.

To do this simply take your index finger and your thumb and pinch the cuff of one glove, then slowly and carefully peel it off.

Take the removed glove in your gloved hand and ball it up c1 3 b13 in your fist.
