Free Hotel Rooms for frontline Medical Professionals

These are difficult economic times for many businesses, but three local hotels are providing rooms for free.

Local hotels are providing rooms to frontline healthcare workers free of charge.

Newschannel 2's kirk tupaj tells us what the program entails.

The hampton by hilton on north genesee street, the double tree by hilton, and the hampton located in the griffiss business and technology park in rome are offering frontline healthcare workers an opportunity to stay at their hotels for free.

Hilton and american express are extending the offer to doctors, nurses, emt's, paramedics, and medical staff who need a place to sleep or isolate from their families during the covid 19 pandemic.

Lee arthur is the general manager at the double tree.

He's already seeing success with the program.

None sot: lee arthur, general manager double tree it's ramped up quicker than i thought so far.

With already about 8 reservations for our hotel alone, i wouldn't be surprised if we see 100 room nights donated from this hotel, and we do know the hampton inn in utica has already had 4-5 reservations, so they could be similar.

Maybe 50-100 room nights by the end of may.

The hotels are taking extra steps to ensure the visitors aren't exposed to the virus.

Nat: we clean when they leave the room.

We use all of these products.

Sot: lee arthur, general manager doubletree they've been working with the mayo clinic, and png, lysol to get all these best practices for making sure that each room is totally disinfected and sanitized, so our team has been really following that, and we've been able to take a little extra time since we're not selling out every single night.

We've been able to take extra time in these rooms. the current program extends through may 30th, but the hospitality continues beyond then.

Sot: lee arthur, general manager doubletree even those who are just visitors to the hospital.

Maybe they're not the frontline workers.

We have special rates for them, and beyond may 30th when these total donation room nights& maybe they're not around anymore, we're going to continue with excellent discounts.

Anything we can do to help our healthcare team coming in utica and the mohawk valley.
