Hair salon openings moved up

Tennessee has suddenly moved up the reopening of "contact" business like hair salons to a week from today.

Yesterday, it was much later.

We talked to frustrated salon owners today.

Businessess slowly begin to reopen, hair stylists are relieved to finally have a firm date to resume their businesses.

News 12's angela moryan spoke with barbers and business owners about how frustrating this reopening processes has been.

It's confusing.

It causes anxiety, and i don't feel like we're being treated fairly."

Tennessee governor bill lee signed a new executive order tuesday, keeping close contact businesses closed until may 29th -- while restaurants, retail and gyms can reopen this week.

The news has left stylists frustrated.

Kristin gonzalez/manage r, all city barbershop co.: "when this all started, they said early april.

And then it turned into potentially may 1, and then to maybe we'll reevalutate may 14, and then they just pushed it to the end of the month.

When you think about it, we've been out of work already 6 weeks which is scary because you still have these bills coming in."

As frustrations fester, more changes come.

Governor lee announced wednesday that hair and nail salons, as well as other close contact businesses, can reopen may 6.

Stylists say hair salons especially are ready for this, as most of their training focuses on sanitation.

Victoria rene kenyon- patton/owner, vk salon: "we have chapters, and chapters, and chapters that we're tested on through that whole 1500 hours on disinfection and sanitation, so we are very aware of it."

The hamilton county health department says they will be following the governor's guidelines for reopening close contact businesses.

Those guidelines are expected to be released thursday.
