10-year-old uses family crosstrainer to raise money for care home
A ten-year-old is running the distance from Land's End to John O'Groats on the family crosstrainer to raise money for a care home.Mia Richardson is running 836 miles on the family crosstrainer to raise money for the local care home where her mum Bernie Richardson, 40, is a health care assistant. She often helps Bernie raise money for Blackwood House - a Cornwall Care charity-run home, relying on donations. She'd hoped to raise £500 towards a magic table - a £7,000 interactive table that would stimulate and entertain residents. Since starting on April 2, she's racked up £5,200 and 372 miles - the equivalent of running from her home in Camborne, Cambridgeshire to Sheffield. Mia said: "I do a happy dance for every new donation. "I run 20 kilometres a day which is hard, but I love seeing the total getting bigger and getting messages from famous people is cool. "Mum is doing lots of hours in her job and this makes me feel like I'm helping her and the people she's looking after." Her dad Dan Richardson, 41, thought his daughter might raise £500, but has been overwhelmed with the response. The retail manager said: "She just reached Yorkshire yesterday. "We're tracking Mia's progress on a map and finding out about the places she's virtually visiting on the internet."It's a good way of learning geography!"It looks quite likely - fingers crossed - that she'll make the full amount now and be able to buy them this table outright, which would be amazing.
