It was a slow and torturous process, closing their doors back in march.

Now....it's a slow and torturous process for retailers, opening them back up.

Baby steps, this friday; as stores begin retail curbside pickup as part of phase one reopening.

Newschannel 2's joleen ferris talks to local store owners getting ready.

Bolos stand up .

None 32:06 "it's likely going to be a far cry from the full parking lotsch registers they long for.

Most local retailers are just happy to be part of anything called a reopening and getting ready for curbside pickup on friday" :09 "we're happy just to be able to open in some semblance, yes, so we're happy about the step forward" local retailers are just happy to hear the word 'reopen' applied to them, to any degree.

But pete bolos, of big apple music, says his is a hands-on, ears on - business :24 "with us, people want to see the product, they want to feel the product, they want to hear the product, we're a specialty store.

A lot of people aren't gonna buy off of a website.

They want to see what this product is" the folks at all seasons outfitters have a unique problem.

The owner, who had previously bought the struggling herb phillipson's store, was supposed to open in march....when just about everything was closed down.

6:40 "it was very traumatic for us.

Actually it has been very traumatic for us" they're getting ready for curbside pickup this friday.....and.....for phase 2, when they can open for in store traffic....it appears, at the end of may 8:39 "we are putting the floor signs down today.

In the store we do have sneeze guards.

We are sanitizing quite a bit" the olde wicker mill, in the new hartford shopping center, is ready to do whatever it takes to accomodate curbside pickup 15:17 "some people don't even want to give us their credit card over the phone.

Most people do.

Some people don't.

So they hand it to us in a baggie, we bring it in, we run it and we bring it back out" it's been a struggle...watching their income stream slow to a trickle......but they feel lucky to still be here 18:46 "this is very paralyzing to retailers.

You knoow, i mean, they closed their doors.

There's going to be, most of my vendors predict, 20% of brick and mortar retailesr will not survive this" there are two weeks between each phase of reopening.

Phase one is this friday.

Retail is part of phase 2.
