Summer is inching closer... will you be able to lay out at the pool?

We're eagerly waiting to find out if local pools will be a hangout option... or if they'll be closed off due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rochester city leaders are already working on plans to keep med city pools closed to the public.

Kimt news 3's alex jirgens joins us live from the mason city family aquatic center with an update there.

A lot of area lakes are going to be open for summer fun... but it's a different story for pools.

In fact?

The doors to the mason city family aquatic center will remain locked this season.

Today?the city made the announcement they will not prepare the pools here in time to be open to the public.

The reasons why?

The amount of people?

Combined with staff needing to be properly trained to operate them?

Made it difficult to open right now.

Parks and rec superintenden t brian pauly knows it was not an easy decision?

But understands that logistically?

This is the best one.xxx "we would have to go 90 minute slots, then close 3?45 minutes to clean, then bring another 130 in."

Now depending if there is an improvement with the public health emergency?

Opening the pools here will be considered at a future date.
