When landlords could start kicking out tenants again

Times are tough right now?

A lot of people are having trouble paying their rent and landlords who rely on that money for income aren't getting their checks.

But is now the right time to enforce an eviction?

It's still too soon for landlords in both minnesota and iowa to kick out tenants and change the locks.

Executive orders in both states prohibit evictions.

That should provide some peace of mind for folks who are behind on their rent because of a job loss.

Governor walz's executive order is open ended with no expiration date for eviction restrictions... in iowa they could start up again on may 27th if governor reynolds does not extend that protection.

There are exceptions for cases where health or safety is involved.

Barbara schmidt with the cerro gordo county sheriff's office says if iowa's governor allows the order to i expect if she lifts this finally at may 17th at midnight.

May 28th i do look for a lot of paperwork to come through between the clerk of courts.

Because right now all those they did have, they've just been continues.

Schmidt says they have been receiving some calls from landlords who want to pursue evictions and all the department can tell them is just to wait.
