Three first-generation Chico State grads celebrated their graduation virtually this Friday.

Tonight - the chico state class of 2020 is celebrating all of their accomplishments virtuall*..... but for three students it's a bitter sweet celebration.

Alan - each of these three students are the first in their families to graduate from college.

But even though they can't walk in front of their loved onesã they're still proud of what they've accomplished.

Bryanna melendez:i' m excited but it doesn't feel real yet william french: i have a lot of mixed emotions eddie aldrete: i feel like it hasn't quite hit me today bryanna, william and eddie became the first in their family to graduate college.... bryanna: after four years of going through lots of tears, i'm ready to be done.

All three went through the oroville spillway crisis, camp fire and now the coronavirus during their college careers&..

Eddie: its awesome i was able to see the resilience chico state had and the students had.

When bad things were happening people were still able to push forward and pursue their dreams. <<<(nats of gayle hutchinsons speech video) >> william: what it comes down to is working your hardest and making an effort to make things happen.

Eddie: all the things that happened were really scary but at the end of the day they really cared about their students.

All three are from southern california but say this community will always have a special place in their hearts.

Eddie: chico is just such a great place to be.
